The city has a shop making violins, a shop with handmade umbrellas, and many other fascinating shops and independent boutiques. The city of Angoulême, 1 hour 15 minutes away, is built on a hilltop with ramparts, and hosts an annual classic car rally where the cars twist and turn their way around the city streets climbing the hillside. The city of Limoges, also 1 hour 15, and famous for its porcelain, has a lovely old centre. There are some great restaurants in and around L’Isle Jourdain. You have three good restaurants a few minutes walk away, and the other side of the river (a 10minute walk), are three more restaurants. Outside L’Isle Jourdain, the motor racing circuit brings custom to the town, with classic car events, GT and bike/sidecar events.
